The Breach

The Breach is a perilous rock-reef of scattered ruins, going all the way from the Earth and higher in the Sky than any other island. It stays relatively contained, but like all sky-islands, it does float and occasionally interrupts otherwise reliable trade routes.

The Breach was once an Earthbound city known as Bastion, long before mankind ascended to the Sky. The sorcerers there sought to transform it into a floating island, but the experiment went disastrously wrong; the city was torn out of the Earth and scattered across the Sky, leaving an enormous crater where it once had stood. A testament to its builders, many of the buildings, pillars, and statues survived the disaster, and float – intact – between Heaven and Earth, suspended forever like a gash across the Sky. The locale is of interest to scholars because of its historical value and the many artifacts still found in the intact buildings, but the erratic movement of the stone makes it very hazardous to enter.

A tribe of Earthdwellers called the Stone Hands now inhabit the crater from which the Breach sprang. Their leaders dress themselves in togas, and claim to be the descendants of its inhabitants. On occasion, they latch long ropes with hooks to the floating stone, and climb between the buildings to reach their temples, there to engage in worship.
