The Black Sword

The Black Sword is named after the Angel of Death, Azrael, who sometimes bears that moniker. The mountain certainly deserves the name: It’s a harsh, unforgiving and hellish place where no sane man would want to stay for long. It’s almost impossibly steep and sharp, with few naturally occurring flat surfaces and barely a scrap of vegetation. Unfortunately – at least for some people – the mountain is incredibly rich in valuable ores. Mining operations have run at the Black Sword for just under half a century, and the accident rate is very high.

Those who work here live in caves or rickety constructions of wood and soar-steel, precariously hanging on to the mountainsides. They are usually dirt poor, and many of them are Earth-dwellers – sold into what essentially amounts to slavery by their kinfolk in exchange for some magical machine or trinket.

The Black Sword is currently controlled by Vitrius and Furia, but it’s more or less an open secret that Bruticus plans to take it by force. The only question is whether Vitrius and Furia will cave to his intimidation; if not, it is almost certain that the first great battle will break out over this unforgiving, barren peak.
