Tales of Skytopia
Hiyokuna is by far the largest of Skytopia’s floating islands, and consequently, the one with the largest population (although Drachma is a close second). It is in some ways a very pastoral place – much of its surface is covered in rich farmlands, fed by cleverly constructed irrigation distributing the water that erupts from the mountain at its center.
Hiyokuna is roughly 4,400 square kilometers, and most of it is farmland or sparse forest. It has two major cities, Azuma in the east and Nishi in the west, with a third large settlement – Mountainside – in the middle. When Earth-dwellers hear of Skytopia, it is often the fertile lands of Hiyokuna that they imagine.
Hiyokuna is held by the two youngest children of Emperor Aurelius, Vitrius and Furia, who are – for now, at least – allies. While Vitrius is ruler of Azuma, he is formally supporting Furia as Queen of Skytopia, and she is officially the ruler of Hiyokuna as well – although in practice, Vitrius does most of the paperwork. Furia is doing her best to raise an army, drawing on the many villagers on Hiyokuna, and so far it’s quite successful – although the locals, used to living peaceful agrarian lives, are not taking it very well.
